About the Co-Op

We are Paper Moon, a worker-owned co-op in Minneapolis providing sliding-scale, accessible, community-based childcare around the metro area. We first formed in late 2022 as an informal collective wanting to combine our love for childcare with our desire to mitigate its inequities, and to build a joyful project that will sustain us into the world to come. In early 2024, we incorporated as a Section 308A cooperative business.

More specifically, we offer…

  • sliding-scale childcare for organizations (for example, mutual aid groups, neighborhood assemblies, & unions)
  • in-home sliding-scale childcare for families & households for up to 20 hours per week, we are not a nanny service.
  • practices rooted in anti-racist, anti-sexist, & gender-affirming values.

ABOUT OUR MEMBERS

  • The members of our co-op all come with different types of skills & experiences in a variety of care settings, including childcare, education, camp counseling, elder care, & health care.
  • The majority of our co-op members are LGBTQ+, with many identifying as trans or genderqueer, as well as members who identify as men. We have several members who speak Spanish. We also have a few members who maintain very diligent personal protocols of COVID precautions & are especially interested in working with households who need COVID-cautious caregivers.
  • All our caregivers have gone through an intake process which involves a formal interview with at least two current co-op members; communicating with 2-3 references who have known them in a care setting; & contractually agreeing to abide by our Radical Childcare Agreements.
  • Within the first 3 months of joining the co-op, our caregivers are required to be trained & certified in First Aid & CPR for children, infants, & adults.
